There was a time when we were satisfied, nay, ecstatic, to wake up every morning in December and countdown to Christmas with a small, randomly shaped chocolate.
Nowadays, the only way to wake up in December is by opening the door to a beauty advent calendar, a wondrous creation filled with our favourite lipsticks, nail polishes, beauty tools, skincare, masks…anything to make us look and feel fabulous.
Back in the day, only a few brands released one of these marvellous markers but for 2016, there’s barely a beauty brand that hasn’t.
We’ve picked our favourite of the festive bunch to help you find your perfect one.
The luxe one – Jo Malone’s Advent Calendar, £280
Okay, so it’s on the pricier side but considering a Jo Malone Hand Lotion costs £19, it’s actually amazing value.
If you’re a fan of the brand or Instagram worthy packaging, this is the one for you; inside, you’ll find mini fragrances and body products.
The make-up artist and beauty aficionado is launching her first ever advent calendar this year, filled with some of Charlotte’s award-winning bestsellers. It’s a make-up lover’s dream.
The nail need – Ciate Mini Mani Month, £49
If you’re into your nails, you’ll be into Ciate’s AC. Along with full-sized nail polishes and tools, the calendar includes an exclusive colour plus a limited edition surprise.
This is a great way to expand your at-home mani kit.
The experimental one – Boots’ L’Oreal Advent Calendar, £85
The reason we love L’Oreal’s calendar is easy – it’s a showcase of some of their most luxe brands and a great way to test out the products without investing in full-size versions.
Brands inside include Lancome and YSL and there’s everything from skincare to fragrance behind the doors.
The unisex one – Kiehl’s Advent Calendar, £95
Kiehl’s is a great beauty brand for both him and her so if you’re feeling generous and want to share your advent calendar with your boyfriend or husband, you won’t go wrong with Kiehl’s’.
Not only is the design one of the coolest, the contents pack a punch too. Expect to see hero products Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Crème de Corps alongside some newer ones too.
The one you won’t go wrong with – Sanctuary Let Go Days of Christmas Advent Calendar, £25
Those cold, December nights are calling out for some pampering and this certainly delivers.
There’s face masks, bath soaks and eye masks and even a few scented candles to help set the mood.
The classic one – No7 Beauty Advent Calendar, £39
27,000 people (and counting) have already signed up to be among the first to know when this is released – so expect it to be a sell-out.
It’s popularity is in part because of i’s affordability but we think it’s also a representation of how loved the brand is. No7 has become a key player in the skincare and beauty industry and that waiting list is proof of that.
What’s inside is a secret for now but expect products across skincare, make-up and tools.
