Skincare is one of those subjects that you can talk and debate for hours and most people have an opinion on the different types of products on the market. It can be really complex and sometimes it is easy to just not think too long and hard about it!
I am fortunate that people often say that I look younger than I am and this is probably a combination of being lucky with having good genes and the fact that I have always had a good skin care routine. I do think that if you look after your skin now it will look after you in later years and you will feel great!
What is a skincare routine?
The very basics are to cleanse / tone and moisturise. There are so many cleansers out there from creams to foams and oils and my personal favourite is the Babor Cleansing HY-ÖL and it is suitable for ALL skin types – bonus. You may be alarmed at the thought of putting an oil on your face, and as someone with combination skin I had the same reservations and was worried that I would break out in spots the next day. The crazy thing about it is that it was the first cleanser to CLEAR my skin and i rarely suffer with breakouts using it! It is also very good at removing make-up yet gentle on the skin! Just add 3-4 pumps onto a dry or damp face and rub it in gently using circular movements…
You will also need to use Babor Cleansing Phytoactive (Combination, sensitive, base or reactivating depending on your skin type). I have combination skin and so I use Babor Cleansing Phytoactive Combination but you can read more about what each one does here and choose the best one for you. Once you have used the HY-OL then add 2 pumps of the Phytoactive and rub into your face in circular motions. You will notice that the two together becomes slightly creamy which is perfectly normal! Then just rinse your face and ta daa a clean soft face!
So what next?
Moisturise…..When it comes to moisturiser I believe you should change the product every so often as I think your skin needs variety otherwise it gets used to it and your skin starts to feel dull. I change mine every 6-9 months – long enough to see results yet not too long to make my skin dull. I often revisit moisturisers if I have found they are good and work with my skin and I have a handful that I stick to. Skincare is always evolving and new creams invented so I find it’s good to keep up to date with new products…
At the moment I’m using Babor Derma Cellular Collagen Booster Cream although I also like the Skinovage PX range which is suitable for different skin types so you can choose the right one for you! I like my cream to feel like my face is hydrated but also to absorb easily and not be too thick. Moisturisers come in different textures, thick, gel etc and are obviously a personal choice so not one fits all. I recommend having a test of the different textures and seeing which you prefer. You may like to have a gel for the daytime and a thick cream for overnight.
