Cliveden House, Berkshire
TLL were invited to explore the glamour and elegance of Cliveden House and it certainly lives up to its reputation.
As you approach the house it is clear that you are about to experience something unique and special. The house is surrounded by 375 acres of National Trust land, overlooks the River Thames and gives you a sense of stepping back in time.
The Old Clock Tower houses a recently renovated spa and fitness suite, where guests can take advantage of a range of treatments, fitness classes or simply relax in the peace and tranquillity. Within the walled garden you’ll find the infamous ‘Profumo’ pool which is part of the history of Cliveden House and the last remaining listed outdoor pool in England.
Best For: Those special occasions where you want to relax, eat fine food, walk in the countryside and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Things to Do: For those that want to explore you will find woodland walks, boat trips, picnic areas and, of course, the beautiful gardens surrounding the house. Sporty? As well as the fitness centre there are indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two hot tubs and a range of fitness classes every day. The Cliveden Spa uses its own range of products for many of its treatments – we experienced the 60 minute warm oil massage and just wished it wouldn’t end!
Other Facilities: The National Trust offer tours of the house. In the grounds you can take a trip on one of the vintage river cruisers or hire a boat. It’s 40 minutes from the centre of London and just 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport.
Highlights: The Andre Garrett dining experience in the main house, the Astor Grill in the old stable block with its subtle equine décor or afternoon tea served in the Great Hall.
If you are lucky enough to stay in the main house you’ll have exclusive access to ‘The Butler’s Pantry’ where you’ll find an assortment of fruit juices, beers and wine together with an array of homemade biscuits and treats.
Complimentary bottled water is available throughout the hotel.
Rates start from £445 per night including full English breakfast and full use of the Cliveden Spa.
