Phone Face – Why Your Phone Is Giving You Wrinkles
Are you suffering the effects of phone face? It’s very likely that you are, if you’re anything like us and glued to your phone for most of the day and night replying to emails, stalking Kim Kardashian on instagram and those endless calls to your best friend / partner / mum…
Obviously your phone allows you to manage your life, keep in touch with friends and doesn’t let you miss a thing, which is all well and good, as lets be honest, we couldn’t possibly imagine our lives without them! But the big question is- how is your phone addiction affecting your face? Well we’re here to reveal all and offer some helpful solutions to keep your face looking youthful, radiant and phone-face free!
BLEMISHES
The screen on your phone probably holds more bacteria than your toilet seat! And it makes total sense if you think about all of the dirty surfaces your phone touches and how often you pick it up and put it down throughout the day. These germs and bacteria are transferred from your phone directly onto your face causing blemishes and breakouts to occur.
HOW TO HELP– clean the screen of your phone with an antibacterial wipe twice a day to prevent the bacteria from spreading onto your face
DULL SKIN
Exposing your face to the electromagnetic radiation and light from your mobile phone can actually leave your skin looking dull and slightly grey in colour. Dr Zein Obagi says ‘ your phone will damage your skin and you will start to see dull, dirty looking texture that you cannot identify on one side of your face’ this is a direct result of overusing your phone as we all tend to use our phones on one particular side when we talk.
HOW TO HELP: Use a hands-free device or earphones when speaking on the phone to completely avoid the screen from touching your face. When you really need to speak on the phone itself then turn the brightness level to as low as possible help reduce light exposure directly onto the skin.
EYESIGHT
Staring at the screen reduces the rate you blink by 30%, this results in drier eyes as the water evaporates from the eye’s surface and can cause irritation. Being glued to looking at your screen can also cause a mucus substance to form around the eye- not a good look and not good for the health of your precious eyes!
HOW TO HELP: Every 10 minutes look away from your screen and look at something else. Also exaggerated blinks help to add moisture to the eye’s surface too.
WRINKLES
Believe it or not your phone can cause premature ageing in the form of fine lines and wrinkles on both your face and neck! Sorry to break it to you but its true. Dermatologists strongly believe that if you spend too much time gazing down at your phone that lines and creases on the face and neck area will naturally occur.
HOW TO HELP: Try to use your phone less and don’t waste pointless time and energy mindlessly gazing into it when you don’t really need to. When you do use your phone hold it up in front of your face.
