Save The Planet: Top Tips to Sustainable Living

Going eco-friendly can feel like an impossible mission.  David McLagan, Founder of Ecoffee Cup resuseable bamboo cups, takes the overwhelm out of sustainable living with Top 5 Tips to be more eco-conscious…

1. Become conscious of your own behaviour: The first step to making change is to acknowledge that you are part of the problem. Once you are aware of this, you can then see the issues much clearer and take actions to create change. Consciousness and awareness is everything.

2. Start small: Think small and try and use your new-found consciousness to this effect. Don’t be overwhelmed by the scale of the problem! As we always say: “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”

3. Don’t feel guilty if you slip up:We all do it; we’re all human. A lot of the time you don’t have a choice. And that’s not your fault. Be pragmatic, but always be aware of the issues. Don’t feel judged and don’t be discouraged, because nobody is perfect.

4. Get out and act:There are brilliant initiatives all over the world. In the UK, our friends at #2minutebeachclean, SAS and ReFillBude are making real progress in tackling the down-and-dirty problems that face the coastlines of the UK. But the issues are big and unpleasant and require a lot of individual action. Don’t be embarrassed or self-conscious about it, start tomorrow by becoming involved in whatever way you can.

5. Refuse single-use whenever you can:Bottles, cups, straws, cutlery, napkins. They’re everywhere– and they are hard to avoid. So it goes with the territory to suggest that you carry reusables, but beyond that, just say no whenever you can. If we all made this small change, it could have a mighty big impact on the problem.
