Make-up Tips For Mum’s on The School Run

Short for time after putting the family first? Here’s some tips to looking Instagram ready, whatever your schedule.

It’s that wonderful time of year again where the kids go back to school.

For some of us, though, that means less time to get ourselves ready in the mornings. Suddenly your morning routine can mean rushing out the door, granola bar in-hand with only a quick glance in the mirror to check you’ve remembered to brush your hair.

Getting everyone ready, whilst getting yourself ready for your own day can be a headache.

So mum and make-up artist, Annabel Jardella has perfected some really easy ways to give yourself a fresh and natural makeup look without it taking forever.

Here’s Annabel’s mum-ready make-up tips:

Step 1. Skip foundation

If you haven’t got time to blend your foundation in properly, forget it – you’ll end up looking worse than if you didn’t bother.

Annabel recommends applying a creamy, peach-toned concealer under the eyes and an anti-redness cover-up, like ReCover’s Correct and Conceal Red, to hide any blotchiness or redness and neutralise skin. That way, you’ll even out your skin tone and create the illusion of a brilliant base.

Step 2: Define those brows

If you only have a minute, spend it on your brows – groomed brows give your look a polish and frame your face. Plus, if you don’t have time for eye make-up then this is a brilliant way of fudging it. Annabel’s favourite is Benefit’s Gimme Brow, a comb-through gel product.

Step 3: Marry your mascara

Not literally, but finding your ideal mascara can be as hard as finding the perfect bloke. Unfortunately there’s a ton of reviews of mascaras, so find one that is smudge-proof to last you the day.

Step 4. Cheeks in check

A pop of blusher makes light work of waking up tired skin and cream blushers are perfect for when you are short on time.

“A swipe of a blusher stick couldn’t be any easier,” recommends Annabel. “Simply apply and blend with fingers on the ‘apples’ of your cheeks (smile into the mirror and find the fullest part of your cheek).”

Try Nars The Multiple in Riviera for a shimmery finish, or try Kevyn Aucoin’s Creamy Glow in Tansoleil, a peachy toned blusher which is creamy to apply, blends well and stays puts.

Step 5. Love your lips

Add a hint of lip colour with a lip balm or a sheer lipstick. These don’t have the best staying power, so you may need to reapply throughout the day – which you can do one-handed while handing out toast to small people with the other hand!

For a classic, look to Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm and if you find that lipstick always smudges or smears, then try a tint like Becca Beach Tint. If any doubt, at least moisturise them – you can’t go wrong with Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream, which doubles up as a cheek highlighter and brow tamer too.
